Not Getting Enough Google Reviews? Use a QR Code

Your customers tell you they love your work, but your Google profile barely has any reviews. A Google review QR code closes that gap by taking happy customers straight to your review form in one scan.

Why happy customers don’t leave reviews

It’s rarely because they don’t want to help. Usually, leaving a review is just harder than it should be:

  • Too many steps. Search for your business, find the right listing, scroll to reviews, find the button. Most people give up.
  • Bad timing. By the time they get home, the moment has passed.
  • Nobody asked. Many customers simply don’t think of it unless prompted.
  • Asking feels awkward, so staff don’t mention it.

A QR code turns “please find us on Google” into “scan this,” right while the good experience is fresh.

How to solve it with a Google review QR code

  1. Create the code. Make a code that opens your business’s Google review page, then scan it yourself to confirm it opens your own business and not a similar one.
  2. Brand it. Add your logo and colors so customers know it belongs to you. Keep a dark code on a light background.
  3. Write a friendly call to action. For example: “Loved your visit? Scan to leave us a Google review” or “Your feedback helps our small business grow.”
  4. Place it where customers are happiest. Good spots include the checkout counter, receipts and invoices, table tents, waiting areas, thank-you cards in orders, leave-behind cards after a service call and your business card.
  5. Size it right. Counter signs and table tents need a code at least 1.5 to 2 inches wide.
  6. Ask in person, then point to the code. A quick “If you have a second, we’d really appreciate a review” makes the code far more effective.
  7. Train your team so everyone knows where the codes are and when to mention them.
  8. Reply to reviews, good and bad, so future customers see that you’re listening.

Want to know which placement works? Track it

If you want scan counts, create a dynamic QR code that points to your Google review link. Dynamic codes record each scan with the date, time, approximate city and device type, so you can compare placements, such as receipts versus the front counter, using separate codes. You can also change the destination later without reprinting. Learn more about QR code tracking.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Offering incentives for reviews. Google’s review policies prohibit offering discounts or freebies in exchange for reviews. Ask everyone and let them say what they really think.
  • Only asking happy customers. Google discourages selectively soliciting positive reviews. Make the code available to all customers.
  • Linking to the wrong listing. Always test the code before printing.
  • A bare code with no explanation. People need to know it’s for reviews.
  • Asking at the wrong moment. Ask after the job is finished or the meal is served, not while people are still waiting.
  • One-and-done. Review codes work best as part of your everyday routine, not a single push.

Troubleshooting

  • Code opens Google but not the review form: recheck the review link or business details you entered.
  • Customers say it won’t scan: make it bigger, raise the contrast and move it out of glare.
  • Few scans: move the code closer to the moment of delight and have staff mention it.
  • Scans but no new reviews: customers may not be signed in to a Google account on their phone. A gentle reminder that it only takes a minute can help, and some will come back to it later.
